APPLICATIONS
Rubber Industry
Mould Release Agent is used as a mould release agent for difficult release jobs. An example is its use in making battery cases from 98% reclaims stock. Spraying the moulds with a 3% dispersion of Mould Release Agent in perchloroethylene gives consistently clean and easy release. And the molds stay cleaner longer.
It is an excellent lubricant and preservative for rubber. Wiped with this grease-like silicone, tight fitting rubber parts slide into place quickly and easily.
Plastic Industry
Mould Release Agent is used as a release agent or epoxy, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyester resins and other plastic materials. On polished dies for embossing vinyl sheeting, one application lasts for as many as 100 to 150 embossing. Applied to calendar rolls. It prevents sticking and gives a very desirable finish to vinyl coated upholstery fabrics. Other applications range from opoxy-cast electrical coils to polyester luggage. In low pressure laminating of phenolic and styrene copolymers. The use of Mould Release Agent eliminates the need for cellophane barrier sheets and prevents buildup excess resin.
Methods of application may vary, in some cases it is simply rubbed on the mold’s surface. In applications involving complex molds, It is dispersed in solvents and sprayed on the mold’s surface. Methods of applications, Concentrations, and frequency of application are best determined by actual trials, where such a dispersion is desired, a 5% concentration in solvent is suggested.
Plywood Industry
Mould Release Agent is widely used throughout the plywood and hard board industry as a release agent and for preventing glue from fouling machinery. It is applied as received or from a solvent dispersion to such equipment parts as saw blades, speicel heating bands, edge gluer chains, heating bars, cauls and platen sleeves.
Application of Mould Release Agent prevents the adhesion of glue to press platens and loaders for periods up to six months of continuous production. It facilites removal of the finished panels, reduces maintenance of the platens and loaders, as minimizes to the panel surface caused by build up of hardhead glue.
Metal Industry
Mould Release Agent is recommended in the shall molding process for breaking in new or freshly cleaned patterns.
Zinc producer use Mould Release Agent on molds for plates and other castings. They obtain easy release, good surface finish and reduced buildup on molds. A 5% dispersion of Mould Release Agent in kerosene may be sprayed on molds. One application is sufficient for 15 to 17 castings.
It is an excellent release agent in chill casting of brass. In those applications where it is applied to metal surfaces or dies or molds, optimum effectiveness has been obtained by buffing or burnishing the compound on to the metal surface.
Other Industries
In Clay industry it is used as a release agent in forming integral seals or clay-tile. The seals are made from vinyl plastisols and asphalt. NOTE
The silicone release film may in some cases, interfere with the painting of molded parts. If the tests show that painting problem exists, the parts may be wiped or washed with solvents, detergent or immersed in an alcoholic-potassium hydroxide solution, and rinsed in clear water before painting. |
